Parkgate – new Shirley scheme continues to welcome new shops and eateries

Parkgate welcomed its 19th occupier on Saturday 21st February when Perios opened its doors for the first time bringing freshly prepared Mexican, Portuguese and American food to the new development at the heart of Shirley town centre.

Over the past few months Parkgate has been filling up with other occupiers including Prezzo, The Pump House (JD Wetherspoon), healthy eating and juice bar Frais and nail/beauty studio Kirans. Shoe Zone and Greggs have also opened their new units in Parkgate and Store Twenty One and home furnishing and accessories store Ponden Home opened in the run up to Christmas.

The Gym, which opened in the Autumn, is a great success with a current membership understood to be at approximately 5,000 people. The new facilities for First Shirley Scouts, The Royal British Legion Club and Shirley Baptist Church have all been completed, with Kairos, Shirley Baptist Church’s extremely popular coffee shop facing onto Trinity Square, always busy.

The majority of the residential development has now been completed and sold, with many of the new residents already living there. Bloor Homes have been responsible for building 42 new homes and Shirley Advance is just finishing another eight townhouses and six apartments overlooking Shirley Park.

Robert Birch of Parkgate developer, Shirley Advance, said, “We’re really pleased with how things have come together since we opened Parkgate last May. We now only have a few remaining units to let and will be making a more announcements in the coming weeks. There is no doubt that Parkgate has become a real social hub for the area, certainly that’s the feedback we’re getting.”
